Margaret Evans - EMT

Medic Margaret Evans joined the fire department in August of 1999 which gives her 9 years of dedicated service to the community of Polk City. Margaret moved to Polk City two years prior to joining the fire department. She is originally from Hartford, IA.

Margaret played a role in the recruitment process for the Polk City Fire Department. She brought on her boyfriend (at the time), Firefighter Mark Evans and now husband of 5 years. Together they have Prinni, which is a 9 pound Chihuahua / Terrier Mix. She is said to be a “real killer dog”! Watch where you sit or you just may get bit in the…arm (what do you think it was going to say?).

Margaret loves taking care of people so much that besides being a member of the Polk City Fire Department she decided to make a career of it and went into the nursing field. Margaret received her Associates of Science Degree from DMACC and then went onto get her Registered Nurse license. She works as a staff nurse at Mercy Medical Center.

Over her last 9 years Margaret has been an integral part of the Polk City Fire Department. She was the Secretary/Treasurer from 2000-2003. In 2004 she switched hats and took over as the Training Officer for a one year term. She has also sat in on many committees. Some of the certifications that Margaret holds are Emergency Medical Technician – Basic, Firefighter I and Firefighter II. Up until last year Margaret was also a firefighter with the Polk City Fire Department but now with her busy schedule she runs as a Medic only for the PCFD.

Between the hundreds of patients that Margaret “makes a difference in their lives” either at Mercy Medical Center or with the Polk City Fire Department she tries to spend quality time with Mark and Prinni. While not playing the role of a medic she likes to go camping, spending time outdoors, taking their ATV for a spin through the woods and watching auto racing. It is still up for debate if the Iowa Speedway is a good thing? It all depends who you ask…Margaret or Mark’s check book! You can find her supporting her favorite driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. at any racing event (even if he is not racing).

Another hobby that Margaret enjoys is waterball fighting. She has her share of trophies including many 1st place finishes. Her most memorable fight came at the 129th Iowa Fireman’s Association Convention held in Forest City, 2007. She did not walk away with a first place but she did get 2nd place which was first place to her. IFA Convention is a statewide competition, so it is the best of the best and we are proud to have the second best female waterball fighter for 2007 associated with the Polk City Fire Department. Good job Margaret!
