Peg Back - EMT
Medic Peg Back rejoined the department in 2007 but was on the department from 1991 through 1994
prior. She just couldn’t stay away especially since her husband was on the department. He would
come home telling her “war stories” giving her the itch to get back to what she enjoyed, helping
people!
At any given time, on any given day, you can hear Peg say; “Livin’ the dream!”
She is always good for a laugh and a smile.
Peg grew up only 8 miles from Polk City in Alleman. She has been a citizen of Polk City for almost
25 years. Peg married Firefighter Jason Back 6 years ago this month. She has one son (Josh), two
dogs (Jager and Fancy) and a cat named Comet (North Polk Comets??). Josh turned 16 this year and
unknown to him, he has become a mechanic, which should keep him from driving too far or too fast,
unlike his mom!
Peg not only enjoys spending time with her family and pets; she enjoys driving her 2004 Ford
Mustang convertible. Good thing she is a dispatcher for Westcom (wink, wink)? “Cheating death,
saving lives and property all with my feet up watching TV!” She also enjoys knitting when
she gets the chance.
Peg is the most recent graduate from the Mercy College of Health Sciences – Paramedic Specialist
and Associates in EMS. She graduated with a 4.0 GPA and was named to the Presidents List and did
it all in less than a year. She stated, “I could not have made it through
class without the support of the department, city and most of all my family.” While attending
Mercy College, Peg received the following certifications; Paramedic Specialist, CPR, ACLS, PHTLS,
PEPP and PALS.
Before taking her sabbatical in 1994 she held the position of Captain – EMS Division. She is
currently the Public Education Coordinator for the Polk City Fire Department. Last year she
coordinated a drill with the North Polk School District and the Polk City Fire Department during
Fire Prevention Week. During the city siren test kids were instructed to go to their meeting place
while the Polk City Fire Department toured the neighborhoods with fire trucks and ambulances
handing out candy. It was a huge success!
Peg showed her caring side during the last round of storms that swept through Polk City. She
visited known residents that may be in need of medical assistance due to the extended power outage.
She is now being pro-active asking for the assistance of the community to help identify possible
residents that may need the medical attention that they deserve so to not overlook anyone in a time
of need. To find out more information please see the news article on the main page listed “Polk
City Fire Department Needs Your Help!”
