Polk City Fire Department's Official Website

The Polk City Fire Department is a paid on call Fire Department, located north of Des Moines in central Iowa, which has been in continuous operation since 1946. We provide Fire and EMS service to our citizens, businesses, neighbors, and visitors over a coverage area of approximately 70 square miles in the northwest quadrant of Polk County. The members of the Polk City Fire Department are highly motivated and truly dedicated to providing the highest level of service possible to meet the needs of the area.

The City of Polk City itself has been experiencing explosive residential and commercial development over the past several years. Additionally, the Polk City area is well known for its vast recreational opportunities in the form of lakes, campgrounds, bike trails, snowmobile trails, and the only Arnold Palmer Signature Golf Course in the State of Iowa. Approximately 2 million people travel around and through Polk City every year to experience all the area has to offer.

Polk City Fire Department Needs Your Help!

The Polk City Fire Department is seeking the communities help in identifying residents that may be in need of medical attention. We are looking for citizens who could require an in home check in the event of a natural disaster.

With the rash of severe storms, it has come to the Fire Departments attention that there may be a group of individuals that could require an in home check or additional assistance in the event of a natural disaster or extended power outage.

The Fire Department would also like to take a pro-active approach to health care. The citizens that require in home care could be in need of assistance at a moments notice and the Fire Department wants to make sure these citizens are getting the care and assistance they deserve and that the Fire Department is equipped to handle any emergency they may have.

If you or someone you know in Polk City require in home care or medical attention, please contact us so we can get the needed information. Our citizens are our most prized possession and it is our goal to make sure they have access to skilled medical attention whenever needed.

MDA Thanks the PCFD

Denise Kincaid from the Iowa Muscular Dystrophy Association presented a plaque of appreciation to the PCFD for their participation in Fill the Boot fundraiser. Every Labor Day weekend you can help the PCFD meet thier goal by donating at the intersections of Broadway and 3rd Street.

Nationwide, the total amount of money raised was $25 million by Firefighter groups. Locally, $300,000 was raised. Of that money, ISU and U of I have been both enabled to continue their research programs, clinic visits paid for and approximately 60 kids were enabled to attend summer camp.

Last year the PCFD raised $1,600 for MDA (second highest year). This year’s goal will be $1 greater than our best year of $2,000.

PCFD Receives "Outstanding Department Award"

During the Iowa Firemen’s Association 2008 Midyear Meeting Past Presidents’ Banquet, held on Saturday, April 19th, the Polk City Fire Department was presented with the Outstanding Department Award for 2007!

The I.F.A. Board of Directors presents the award annually to one Fire Department based on a nomination from someone who feels a group has gone above and beyond the call of duty as well as portrays a positive example of the Iowa Fire Service. IFA 3RD Vice President Brian Hoffman nominated the PCFD for the award and we thank him for the nomination and very kind words.

The plaque reads: “In recognition of your dedication to the Iowa Firemen’s Association, we are proud to present POLK CITY FIRE DEPARTMENT with the Iowa Firemen’s Association Outstanding Department Award for 2007 – I.F.A. Board of Directors”

With this being only the second year of the award, we are truly honored to be this year’s recipient!
