ABOUT

The Polk City Fire Department is a combination Fire Department, located north of Des Moines in central Iowa, which has been in continuous operation since 1946. We have 3 full-time Firefighter/Paramedics and 1 full-time Chief.  Half the Department are part-time members and the other half are paid-on-call members. We provide Fire and EMS service to our citizens, businesses, neighbors, and visitors over a coverage area of approximately 70 square miles in the northwest quadrant of Polk County. The members of the Polk City Fire Department are highly motivated and truly dedicated to providing the highest level of service possible to meet the needs of the area.

The City of Polk City has been experiencing explosive residential and commercial development over the past several years. Additionally, the Polk City area is well known for its vast recreational opportunities in the form of lakes, campgrounds, bike trails, snowmobile trails, and the only Arnold Palmer Signature Golf Course in the State of Iowa. Approximately 2 million people travel around and through Polk City every year to experience all the area has to offer.
